Fred Carrillo, the founder of Carrillo Industries, has been deeply involved with Motorsports for most of his adult life. Prior to his involvement with the manufacture of connecting rods, Fred successfully raced motorcycles, built, designed and raced land speed automobiles; he built Ford Flatheads, manufactured and designed the most successful go-cart engine of his era. Fred also enjoyed significant success as an owner/designer of a number of Indianapolis/Championship cars.

Although Fred was a noted aerospace engineer, his true passion was the mechanics of Motorsports. After researching the needs of the engine builders of the day, he concluded that the need for a quality connecting rod was very strong. After lengthy research and design consultations with some of the most prominent aeronautical engineers available, he concluded that the well known “H” design would best suit the needs of the most sophisticated racers of the day.

Fred approached the challenges of manufacturing with the idea of no compromise. If he were to manufacture the best, unequaled connecting rod in the industry, there would continue to be a market as performance levels accelerated. This Carrillo philosophy is as evident today as it was at Carrillo’s conception in 1963.

We have dedicated our resources to one effort, connecting rods and connecting rods only. This dedication has created one of the most impressive success records of any automotive aftermarket parts supplier. Carrillo has supplied components to the winners of virtually all venues of Motorsports throughout the world. The list includes Formula 1, 2, and 3, Championship Cars, IRL, World Rally, AMA, Superbike, Trans AM, CanAM, GTP, SCCA, Sprint Cars, Modified, Land Speed, the list is unending.

After almost forty years of directing Carrillo Industries Fred decided it was time to relax. He searched for an entity that would continue his efforts and contribute to the successes of the Carrillo heritage. The Dover Corporation, under the organizational umbrella of Performance Motorsports, Incorporated (PMI) fulfilled his requirements. With the transition, unlike many large corporate acquisitions, all management, rank and file and time proven philosophies remained in place. PMI brought support and direction, which has quickly enhanced the structure at Carrillo, only improving the foundation that built the company. Reduced delivery times, broader selection of stocking parts and the synergy amongst other PMI companies, all have markedly enhanced our position within the Motorsports industry.

Due to the dynamics of our industry, we are constantly striving to improve quality in all aspects of our products and business.
